Children can build musical instruments as part of a series of autumn events to make people connect with their sense of hearing.

We’re All Bats, part of the Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture, will include deep listening workshops for sound and art enthusiasts, concerts exploring music to create hypnotic states and family and children’s activities including instrument making workshops.

Joel Cahen, event organiser and sound artist, said: “In this age of short attention spans and immediate gratification, a reminder of our natural faculties for attention to subtleness in aural perception is called for.

"Listening is essential for co-operation, empathy, tolerance and inner peace. It is a beacon for change and transformation through new music, technological sounds and language.

"We believe that the practice of listening is at the root of fruitful interaction and meaningful discourse and so it is a useful and important skill to develop. We should all learn to #BeMoreBat!”

One of the highlights of the programme will be Wet Sounds, an aquatic music experience which has featured at festivals around the world. It will take place at Walthamstow’s Feel Good Centre, and will have the swimming pool transformed with light, sound and performance.

There will be a range of other interactive and listening events, starting with Riley French’s Recording Hidden Sounds workshop on Saturday October 5 and finishing on Sunday November 3.
