A popular children’s playground has been forced to close due to continuous reports of anti-social behaviour.

The Pelican Playground on Grange Farm Lane, off High Road, Chigwell, has remained closed to the public since Thursday, August 15.

A sign has been placed outside the recreational facility informing visitors who may have planned to visit.

The outdoor play area has also seen surrounding trees damaged by unknown suspects, nappies dumped in the car parks and staff experiencing threats.

Chairman of Grange Farm Centre Trust, Trevor Johnson, said that the decision to close the playground was one very reluctantly, saying: “Due to health and safety issues that have arisen closure was the only option.

“The Trust will be looking at ways in which the playground can reopen giving a safe and friendly environment to all the users probably reopening in Spring next year.”

The Pelican Playground was initially built in an unused field within the farm following a large investment from the Grange Farm Centre Trust.

Despite being on private land the organisation opens it up to residents to give back to the community.
