A former police officer tried to engage in an "inappropriate"relationship with a detainee, a misconduct hearing has found.

Andrianas Nikolajevas, a former trainee detective constable based at Waltham Forest, was on duty at the custody centre on May 26 last year.

During his shift, he interviewed a woman who was held in custody.

But after she was released without charge, Nikolajevas allegedly engaged in, or tried to engage in an inappropriate relationship with her - Met Police said.

A panel found that had Nikolajevas remained in his role, he would have been dismissed without notice.

Nikolajevas has been found to have committed gross misconduct by breaching the standards of professional behaviour in respect of authority, respect and courtesy, honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct.
