Epping Forest District Museum has received endorsement by VisitEngland and has received two award nominations.

The public attraction on Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, has been promoted to a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction and received an overall quality score of 91 per cent.

This is the first time the museum has undergone an assessment by since re-opening in 2016, following its National Lottery Heritage Funded redevelopment.

This is an excellent endorsement for the service and VisitEngland has nominated the museum for a VisitEngland Welcome Accolade and a Hidden Gem Accolade.

Councillor Nigel Bedford, portfolio holder for community and partnerships said: “I am very pleased that the hard-working staff at the museum have received recognition from VisitEngland.

“The award demonstrates the efforts that staff have put into ensuring that children and the residents of Epping Forest District are able to pass on the knowledge and history of our districts to future generations.”

Staff at the museum also achieved a perfect score in the report, receiving a rating of 100 per cent.

As stated in the VisitEssex assessment, Epping Forest District Museum offers “an engaging and memorable visitor experience with many positive aspects of a visit especially the extremely friendly, approachable and knowledgeable staff.”

Visit the museum for free on from Mondays to Wednesdays and Saturdays, (closed on Thursdays and Sundays).
