Hundreds of prospective new students and their parents turned out for a secondary school’s annual open morning.

Pupils at Roding Valley High School in Alderton Hill, Loughton, gave visitors a tour around the school grounds and several teaching departments on Saturday, October 5.

Headteacher Sharon Jenner and Year 7 progress leader Tom Price, Head Boy Samuel Copeman and Head Girl Maisha Khondokar gave talks in the crowded school hall.

Year 7 students Ilya James and Antony Blackledge gave an insight into life at Roding Valley, followed by a short drama piece performed by the Year 7 drama group.

Mrs Jenner highlighted the exam successes at the school this summer which saw the best ever GCSE results with all core subjects significantly scoring above national and Essex averages.

She said: "It was wonderful to be able to welcome so many visitors to our school, to be able to showcase the significant improvements the school has experienced and some of the many successes achieved by our students. All of which culminated in our best ever set of GCSE results this year.

"There is far more to school life than just exam success and at Roding Valley - which is very much a community school - we are able to offer our students so much during their seven-year journey with us."

Visitors were also told about the wide range of extra-curricular activities and the success of the school's Sixth Form with students going on to Oxbridge.

Open mornings are scheduled to take place daily this week for parents wanting to visit visit the Roding Valley High School from 9.15am.
