North Weald Bassett Parish Council has voted unanimously not to pay for all-night street lighting for a year.
The council decided against to pay an increase total of £511.86 for the Essex County Council-managed street lights within the village on Monday, October 7.
Essex County Council has released revised, increased, figures for 14 town and parish councils in the district to have their lights left on between 1am and 5am.
For North Weald, it would mean the parish council would have to commit to a four-year arrangement - would have to pay £10,754.91 instead of £10,243.05.
Parish councillors are responsible for 112 street lights and will not be affected by the proposed funding arrangement.
Councillor Sheila Jackman told Monday's parish council meeting she could "see no reason to change that decision".
Also during the council meeting, Cllr Baden Clegg told Monday's announced that speeding figures within parish on Upland Road had dropped by 50 per cent.
No vehicles were caught speeding on Foster Street and Mill Street, Hastingwood, while only three vehicles were caught of the speed limit on Hastingwood Road.
