Remembrance Day is almost is almost upon us, and several events are planned for residents to pay their respects to members of the armed forces who have lost their lives in conflicts.

Armistice Day, on Monday November 11, also known as Remembrance Day, marks the anniversary of the end of the First World War at 11am on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, 1918.

A two-minute silence observed across the UK at 11am to remember the members of their armed forces who have died while in conflicts.

Several events are planned across Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Epping Forest.

Four events are planned in Waltham Forest, beginning at 10am on Remembrance Sunday, November 10.

In Chingford a parade will form at the London Fire Brigade Forecourt, The Ridgeway. A two minute silence will be observed at Chingford War Memorial at 11am.

The remembrance service will take place at St Peter and St Paul's Church from 11.15am.

In Leyton a parade will form at 10am in Coronation Gardens. The service will take place at St. Mary’s Parish Church from 11am.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Remembrance Day honours the armed forces members who lost their lives in both world wars and all conflicts since.

Another parade will form at 10am in the B&M car park in Leytonstone.

The service will take place from 10.50am at the Harrow Green Cenotaph.

In Walthamstow a parade will form at the William Morris Gallery at 10am. The service will take place at the Walthamstow War memorial from 10.50am.

Redbridge will host six wreath-laying events from Saturday through to Monday, November 11.

The mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Zulfiqar Hussain, said: “Every year, we fall silent for two minutes to remember the brave service personnel who have died in wars and conflict.

" It is only fitting that we pay tribute to these men and women, past and present, of all our armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe. We are both humbled and honoured, and owe them a debt of gratitude.”

Epping Forest Guardian:

Those paying their respects wear red poppies, also known as Flanders poppies, where many bloody First World War battles were fought.

Arranged by the council in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, there will be a service of remembrance at 10.50am on Sunday, November 10 at Ilford War Memorial.

At 9am on Saturday, November 9 reverend Ian Tarrant will be holding a service at Woodford War Memorial, St Mary’s Church Hall.

On Sunday, 10th November, at 10.45am, Cllr Roy Emmet will hold a service at Hainault War Memorial, Manford Way.

Cllr Daniel Morgan-Thomas has arranged a service at the Wanstead War Memorial at 12.30pm on Sunday, November 10.

The Fairlop Heritage Group is hosting a service at Fairlop Waters Country Park, Forest Road, at 10.45am on Armistice Day.

A service has been arranged by Colin Cronin, a former councillor at Snaresbrook Garden of Remembrance at 10.45am on Monday, November 11.

Cllr Richard Bassett, chairman of Epping Forest District Council, will lead remembrance events across the district on Sunday, November 10.

“Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. We are united across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the sacrifice of the armed forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth.

“So, it is fitting that those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in these and many other conflicts since, are remembered on memorials and through Remembrance services today.

“As chairman, and along with other representatives from Epping Forest District Council, we are honoured to be laying wreaths across our district today in their memory.

Cllr Bassett will be representing the council at services in Epping, Nazeing and North Weald.
