This time of the year is always a time of reflection for the year nearing its close and one of anticipation for the year ahead.

For myself as a Loughton Councillor the highlight of 2019 picks itself: the successful defence of Jessel Green and the maintenance of it as a public open space for future generations.

Once again let’s use this time of reflection to acknowledge the wonderful grassroots campaign run by the ‘Save Jessel Green campaign group’.

Yes, it was ably supported by others, including Loughton Town Council and Loughton’ s local councillors, but it was this campaign group which drove the issue so it resonated throughout Loughton.

Looking ahead to next year 2020 , three main issues are currently the most worrying for me:

• the future of Lucton’s field in Borders Lane and the issues raised by the current planning application

• the continued gridlock around our retail park, in large part caused by its poor design and location

• the future of Loughton Library which we need to ensures continues as a vibrant community hub

All these issues and more I am certain will focus the minds of local councillors and residents as we go into this new decade.
