In May, ten firefighting teams from Essex, Hertfordshire, London Fire Brigade were called to Brooker Road in Waltham Abbey to tackle a fire in an industrial unit.

They worked for more than eight hours trying to put out the fire.

Around 70 per cent of the 80m by 20m unit was on fire by the time emergency services arrived.

Station manager Stuart Hare said: “Firefighters worked extremely hard throughout the night to extinguish this large and challenging fire.

“The unit where the fire started was joined to a number of other units and a number of them have been affected by the smoke from the fire.”

“We thought there was a small chance. I had a lot of pints bought on Friday and people coming up to me saying well done” said Green Party councillor, Dave Plummer about his surprise win in council elections.

He now represents Waltham Abbey South West ward after beating Conservative candidates Helen Kane, Paul Tippett and Ricky Gadbsy.

Mother Joanne Taverner-Averkiou and her 20-year-old daughter Devon Taverner-Hailou from Epping decided to take part in BBC3’s social experiment show, 21 Again.

The four-part series followed five daughters and their mums who go undercover as 21-year-olds to discover what life is like today as a young adult.

Devon said: “I thought the show would be amazing for both me and mum, because mum never experienced being a typical 21-year-old in her time because she had me at that age."
