Several items from the Waltham Sunday Football League archive have gifted and placed on display at the Epping Forest District Museum.
Former league vice president Ivor Chamberlain and league secretary Denis Coventry, presented dozens of trophies, medals and programmes that will be on display in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, until February.
For over 50 years until 2016, the Waltham Sunday Football League oversaw Sunday morning fixtures for hundreds of clubs across the Epping Forest, Broxbourne and Enfield areas.
Several businesses helped support the league including the Hertfordshire Mercury newspaper and the Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society.
Cllr Nigel Bedford, community and partnership services portfolio holder: “We are delighted to be able to add this collection of football memorabilia to the district’s historic collections.
“The fixtures organised by the league gave huge enjoyment, helped to build communities and contributed to the quality of life of the people of the Epping Forest district and we are proud to tell that story in our museum.”

Denis Coventry, league secretary and trustee of the Waltham Football league said: “The Trustees are delighted that the league archive has been added to Epping Forest District Museum’s collection, where it will be used for educational and community benefit.”
Epping Forest District Museum is also interested to hear from anyone willing to share their memories for an upcoming project.
