A man has been arrested following a rooftop stand-off with police after a foot chase left an officer in hospital.

The man ran across rooftops in Francis Road, Leyton, following a foot chase, Police have said.

Officers were on patrol in Francis Road, Leyton, at about 8.25am on Thursday, January 23, when a man on a moped collided with a small post.

A Police spokesperson said: β€œThe man, aged 18, made-off from the scene on foot and was chased and detained by an officer.”

The man escaped the officer, who was injured in the process.

The man then ran across rooftops in High Street, Leyton, and refused to come down triggering a stand-off with police.

He was brought down by officers using a platform crane at about 11:30am and arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, taking and driving away, criminal damage, no insurance and other driving offences.

An officer has been taken to an east London hospital by the London Ambulance Service with facial injuries; his injuries are not life-threatening.

Leyton High Road and Hainault road were closed during the incident and busses were put on diversion – the closures have since been lifted.
