A primary school is among one of the many schools in the county to receive a National Young Carers in Schools award.

Thomas Willingale School and Nursery on The Broadway, Debden, received a bronze plaque at a ceremony held at County Hall in Chelmsford.

The awards ceremony was held on the same day marking Young Carers Awareness Day on Thursday, January 30.

The National Young Carers in Schools Award is accredited by the Children's Society and Carers Trust which oversees support is provided to young carers in schools.

The Trust also ensures that young carers have the same opportunities as their peers throughout their education.

Michele Hinton, Thomas Willingale School’s family co-ordinator, said: "The award recognises the fantastic work we are doing in school to support and improve the lives of our young carers."
