A warehouse is being transformed into an emergency storage facility for essential food and medical supplies to support the the fight against Covid-19.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, property developer Galliard Homes has donated one of the company’s warehouse complexes in Essex to be transformed into an emergency local community facility storing essential supplies.

The project, in partnership with Essex County Council, will see the 61,000 square feet of storage space, located on a 2.5-acre site, repurposed to provide much needed space for supplies which are being brought in as part of the UK Government’s response to fighting the coronavirus pandemic and supporting vulnerable people.

The warehouse will allow the county council quick access to supplies, making delivery and distribution more efficient.

Trucks have already been arriving the new depot with the first supplies.

Don O’Sullivan, chief executive of Galliard Homes, said: “We are dedicated to assisting the UK government and our local communities in the fight against COVID-19. The donation of our 2.5-acre warehouse site in Essex for storing essential supplies should benefit the local Essex community and beyond, and we have already had trucks arriving with supplies. These are uncertain times, and it is a duty for everyone to help where they can.”

Chris Duffy, acquisitions and commercial director at Galliard Homes, added: “The decision to transform one of our warehouse complexes into an emergency depot for key supplies will support our Government and NHS heroes in the fight against Covid-19. We were pleased to see the arrival of the first supplies, and for this facility to provide much-needed assistance.”
