Ten recycling centres in Hertfordshire are reopening to the public next week – including two in and around Watford.

Hertfordshire County Council revealed centres in Rickmansworth and Waterdale, Garston, are among the ten centres that will be back open from Monday, May 11, after closing on March 24.

But not all centres in the county are reopening, with six being kept shut by the council.

For those that are reopening, the council is putting in "tight" social distancing measures, with visitors likely having to queue to get in with a 'one in one out' system in place.

There will also be live cameras on the county council's website so you can see how busy a tip is.

Despite confirming ten centres will be reopening, the council is urging people across the county to only visit if it is essential.

Terry Hone, Cabinet Member for Waste Management, said: “Although these sites are reopening, I would urge people to only visit if it’s genuinely essential. Most types of waste can be put in normal kerbside bins for collection, or stored safely at home, and this is a much better option at the moment.

“The social distancing measures we’re putting in place to protect our staff and the public mean that visits will take a lot longer than normal and we’re expecting very long queues.”

The council added it will close centres if an “acceptable” level of health and safety cannot be maintained.
