A six-week-old baby has died of coronavirus, NHS England has said.

The health body said in its latest update today that the new-born baby was among a further 332 people to have died in hospitals across England after testing positive for Covid-19.

The infant is believed to be the youngest victim of the virus in the UK so far.

Of the latest deaths, 22 people aged between 40 and 96 years old were considered healthy.

According to the figures, ten of the 332 deaths announced today occurred at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS trust.

The trust recorded the ten deaths between April 2 and May 7, according to NHS England.

It brings the death toll at the trust, which runs hospitals in Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead, to 321.

Of the 332 new deaths announced today:

- 58 occurred on May 7

- 124 occurred on May 6

- 41 occurred on May 5

The figures also show 21 of the new deaths took place between May 1 and May 4, 72 took place in April, while the remaining 16 deaths occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on March 11.

It brings the total number of confirmed reported coronavirus deaths in hospitals in England to 22,764.

NHS England also announced a further 36 deaths of hospital patients who did not test positive for coronavirus but 'Covid-19' has appeared on the death certificate.
