For the second consecutive day there have been no newly announced coronavirus deaths at the trust which runs the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust – which also runs St Margaret’s Hospital and Essex Hospital – has confirmed a total of 204 Covid-19 related deaths.

Data published today by NHS England revealed there had been no newly confirmed deaths in the last 48 hours.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the last 24 hours may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Across England a further 166 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals to 25,079.

Of the latest hospital deaths, patients were aged between 33 and 99 years old.

Five of the 166 patients (aged between 54 and 70) had no known underlying health condition.
