A Waltham Abbey resident has raised more than £630 for The Fire Fighters charity after pushing a wheelie bin from her home to Waltham Abbey Fire Station and back again.
Nicola Matthews put on one of her favourite dresses and heels and pushed her wheelie bin 3.5 miles to raise as much money as possible for the charity and for firefighters across the country.
She was inspired by Amanda Holden’s wheelie bin challenge, #BallGownBinsOut and took to the streets of Waltham Abbey in her glad rags on May 31.
With friends and family cheering her on along the way, Nicola completed the walk in two hours and tripled her £150 target with £630 raised in total.

Nicola said: “I have lived in Waltham Abbey for 43 years and after turning Amanda Holden’s challenge into a weekly #WheelieBinWednesday event to make friends smile and laugh, I decided I would turn the fun into something more worthwhile.
“I decided to pick a group of key workers to fundraise for and who better than Essex firefighters! All firefighters do a brave, physically and mentally challenging job, so it was a good way to say thank you!”
Station manager Steve Wintrip from Waltham Abbey Fire Station said: “We’re really pleased to see one of our local residents raising money for a charity close to our hearts. We look forward to meeting Nicola when restrictions lift to thank her in person.”
