Buckhurst Hill Parish Council is to reopen its play areas.

Play areas in Kings Place and Roding Valley recreation ground (spider park) will reopen from today (Friday, July 17) now that they have been fully risk assessed and thoroughly cleaned by a specialist company.

Measures taken by the council are in line with guidelines laid down by the government and the National Association of Local Councils.

Parish council clerk Liz Petyt-Start told last night's parish council meeting that equipment had been cleaned and the council would be promoting hand sanitising and the use of litter bins at both sites.

The council is also encouraging people not to take food and drink into the play areas, and to not enter the sites if they are too busy but to leave and return at another time.

If necessary, the council will increase the frequency of emptying the litter bins, which is currently done three times a week.

Council chairman councillor Smruti Patel said: "We've cleaned them; we're ready to go."

The council will also look into having the play areas cleaned by a specialist company every six weeks or so.

Information banners are to be displayed at both play areas.
