Avid bowls players are back enjoying their favourite pastime following the coronavirus lockdown.

Epping Bowls Club has made a welcome return to its Epping base in Lower Bury Lane.

Members have returned for roll ups and two internal competitions while adhering to strict guidelines issued by Bowls England in agreement with government advice.

Over lockdown club members carried out much needed maintenance needs to the wood and glass clubhouse and out-buildings.

The club, established in 1911, was assisted in repairs by a donation of £200 from Epping Rotary Club.

The club is keen to attract new people to the game now it is safe to do so.

Club captain Ron Perryman said: “We are very grateful to Epping Rotary Club as our finances have been badly hit this season with so many changes and lack of matches. But we managed to start playing again in early June which is proving successful and safe.

“We have also attracted new members during these difficult times and we would suggest anyone who would like to try the game to get in touch with us - our contact details are on our website.”
