The rate of coronavirus infections in Epping Forest has almost doubled in a week

In the seven days to August 9 – the most up-to-date accurate figures – rates of Covid-19 infections in the district rose to 9.9 new cases per 100,000 people.

Epping Forest, which has an approximate population of 120,000, recorded 13 cases in that time period.

In the seven days to August 2 the district recorded six new cases at a rate of 4.6 per 100,000 residents.

The trust which runs the district’s main hospital, The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, last recorded a coronavirus related death on May 25 – the trust has reported 201 total deaths.

In Harlow, the rate of infection has fallen.

In the last week there were three new lab-confirmed cases at a rate of 3.4 per 100,000 down from a rate of 5.7 (five cases) the week prior.

Across the country, a further six people deaths were reported of patients who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 29,431.

Of the latest reported deaths, patients were aged between 57 and 96 years old. All had known underlying health conditions.
