There were almost 100 new Covid-19 cases in Epping Forest last week as the rate ate of infection continues to rise.

Between October 3 and 10 – the most up-to-date accurate figures – 98 new cases were confirmed at an infection rate of 74.4 cases per 100,000 population.

The week before there had been 87 new cases in the district which has an approximate population of 120,000 – an infection rate of 66.1.

In Harlow, the rate of infection also continues to climb and is now nearing 50 per 100,000 people.

In the seven days to October 10 there were 41 new lab-confirmed cases at a rate of 47.1 from a rate of 29.9 (26 cases) the week prior.

The trust which runs the district’s main hospital, The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, has recorded four coronavirus deaths since September 243 (following four months without a death) with the latest on October 8.

The trust has reported 205 total covid-related deaths.

Yesterday, NHS England confirmed the deaths of a further 87 people who had tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 30,594.

Of the latest deaths, patients were aged between 30 and 96 years old.

All but six patients (aged between 72 and 86) had known underlying health conditions.
