Crystal Palace have tested Watford's resolve with a bid for Ismaila Sarr that has been rejected.
The Hornets are expecting to hold onto the winger today and Palace's offer in the region of £25million was not seen as enough to change their mind.
Given that Manchester United were quoted a fee in the region of £45million earlier in the transfer window, Palace's approach is significantly short of what Watford would expect to get for the player, particularly at this late stage.
Given that there is little time remaining for them to get a replacement in, with less than three hours left of the transfer window, a significant improvement in the offer will be needed if the South London club have any chance of landing the player today.
Reports elsewhere suggest Palace are considering whether or not to return with a second offer.
