Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster believes other teams will be taking note of the Hornets after their 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.

However, the 37-year-old also thinks that the scoreline should have been weighted a lot further in Watford's favour.

Big chances fell to the likes of Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr during the closing stages of the game, giving the hosts a chance to put the game further beyond Rovers, while Foster prevented a nervy finish to the game with a penalty save at the other end.

The keeper kept out six shots on target in total on a busy night at Vicarage Road, but insisted it was all in a night's work.

“I don't think any of them were worldy saves,” he told the club's matchday broadcast show Hive Live after the match. “They were decent saves. They are run of the mill. The one that went in I should have saved that. It's a good win, a really good win, but we do need to be more ruthless and really nail teams and beat them four, five or 6-1.

“We were very good attacking wise and opened them up. We should have put the ball in the back of the net more than we did. We need to nail teams and kill them off. We need to put a marker down for other teams to take note.”

While Foster did deny Adam Armstrong's spot kick with 20 minutes remaining, he was still disappointed to have conceded in the way he did, with Ben Brereton's effort squirming through his gloves at his near post.

However, he was pleased to get the chance to make up for his mistake to deny Armstrong a sixth goal of the season in as many matches.

“You don't really get the chance as goalie to atone for a mistake as you make a mistake and that's it, you are dead,” said Foster.

“But I managed to save a penalty and keep the two-goal lead going. The goalkeeping coach Christos [Kelpeki] is very good at showing us all the [opposition] penalties, corners, free-kicks and one of his [previous] penalties I picked up a little bit of something that didn't make it a giveaway, but it helped make my mind up. I went with my gut feeling and thankfully it was a nice height for me.”
