A council is hosting a Christmas home decorations competition.

North Weald Bassett Parish Council has joined forces with news service Everything Epping Forest to run a Christmas 'best decorated home and business' competition in North Weald Village this year.

Everything Epping Forest will visit each property unannounced after the closing date to take a picture of the display.

Parish council chairman councillor Alan Buckley said: "Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, the parish council wanted to do something different this year but to give villagers the chance to enter into the festive spirit by decorating their homes and businesses this Christmas.

"We would encourage people who perhaps already decorate the outside of their homes - and those who may want to make a special effort this year to bring some festive cheer to the village - to register for the competition, and we look forward to seeing all the entries in due course."

Anyone wanting to enter should email everythingeppingforest@gmail.com by 5pm on December 10 and state their name and address.

Votes can then be cast by email and text message before the closing date of December 19, with the winners receiving a £25 prize from the parish council.
