A dementia friendly restaurant has reopened in Watford.

The Forget Me Not Restaurant initially opened in February this year and was the town's first dementia friendly restaurant.

The restaurant is organised by West Herts College and Watford Borough Council. It has opened its doors again and is now providing a Covid-19 secure setting for diners.

The restaurant is part of the borough council's Dementia Friendly Town Initiative which started last year.

The scheme aims to educate people living in the area on dementia and to also provide a platform to raise awareness as well as to provide a support network.

Students from the college received training to become Dementia Friends in order to provide dementia-friendly customer service and to understand the challenges facing people with dementia.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: "I'm delighted that West Herts College are supporting our Dementia Friendly Town initiative and have reopened the restaurant in a Covid-19 secure way.

"I'd like to thank the staff and students at the college who are making a different to the lives of people living with dementia in our town.

"Living with dementia can make doing everyday things in life, like going to restaurant or a cafe, very challenging.

"That's why we should do all we can to make small changes which help make life easier for the over one thousand people living in our town with Dementia and their carers."

The restaurant opens the last Thursday of every month, excluding school holidays, from 11.45am to 2pm.

The cost is £6 for three courses and to book a table call 01923 812464 or email reservations@westherts.ac.uk.
