Essex has been placed in Tier 2 restrictions, the same level it entered the second national lockdown.
Earlier this month, Essex County Council council leader Cllr David Finch claimed he was confident the county would emerge from lockdown in Tier 1.
However, that was before Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the revamped tier system would be stricter than before.
It has also been confirmed that London is in Tier 2.
Liverpool has been reduced to Tier 2 while Manchester remains in Tier 3.
