Two men have been arrested after officers discovered a haul of stolen catalytic converters in the boot of their car.

Officers from Epping Forest’s policing team, assisted by Essex Police Dog Section, pulled the men over on the A13.

Their vehicle was searched and officers found a boot full of stolen catalytic converters.

A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that reduces toxic gases and pollutants.

They are located in a box on the exhaust pipe under a car. In order to steal it, thieves slide under the car and use high-powered cutting tools to detach the box from the pipes around it.

Catalytic converter theft has been on the rise in Essex and across the country in recent years due to the ease and speed at which they can be stolen.
