- Firefighters tackled a large fire which has broken out in Watford this afternoon.

- A section of St Albans Road near Asda was cordoned off due to a fire on the site of a former car showroom.

- Police posted on Facebook at around 3pm: "We're helping firefighters while they deal with a fire at a building in St Albans Road, #Watford near to the Dome Roundabout. There are road closures in place so please avoid the area while the fire is dealt with. Thank you."

- The fire was brought under control by 4pm and St Albans Road reopened around the same time.

- A video taken by a passer-by showed huge plumes of black smoke, with several fire engines at the scene.

- One firefighter could be seen tackling the flames from an aerial ladder over the site.

- It's believed the site affected is the BMW car showroom, which is to be demolished and turned into 72 flats after planning permission was granted in May.
