A councillor has stepped down from a parish council with immediate effect.

Przemek de Skuba, who represented Aldenham East, informed Aldenham Parish Council on New Year’s Day of his resignation.

He told the council he was leaving for personal reasons, anticipating he would not be able to give the parish council as much of his time as he used to or would like to.

He says with a "heavy heart", he has decided to give way to someone else who may be better placed to commit to civic duties.

Mr de Skuba has spent much of his recent time as parish councillor campaigning for traffic calming measures in Shenley Hill and Craigweil Avenue in Radlett.

Mr de Skuba said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for working with me on the various Committees and projects – working with you has truly been a pleasure. I would further like to express my gratitude to all our residents who voted for me in 2019 – it has been an honour for me to have been entrusted with this position of responsibility where I could give back to our community.

"I trust that Aldenham Parish Council will carry on with my campaign for improving pedestrian safety in Radlett by engaging the Hertfordshire County Council, as well as continue to protect our residents from urban sprawl and over-development by duly influencing Hertsmere Borough Council’s planning policy and facilitating consultations with our community on any major future projects."

Mr de Skuba’s resignation means there are now three vacancies at Aldenham Parish Council.

A by-election to fill Mr de Skuba’s seat will be triggered if a written request from ten electors in Aldenham West is received by Hertsmere Borough Council by January 26.

Any by-election would not take place until May 6 due to the pandemic.

By-elections have already been triggered to fill the other two vacant seats on the parish council with the election also scheduled for May 6.

The full election notice is available to view at www.hertsmere.gov.uk/electionnotices.
