FURIOUS residents say they are almost ready to admit defeat in the battle to stop mindless flytippers blighting their community.

Huge piles of waste – including giant wooden pallets, large bags of rubble and other rubbish – are being dumped in Fane Road, Thundersley.

And campaigners say they feel there is little point in keeping up efforts – but council bosses say they’re doing all they can on the issue.

Angry discussions have been rumbling on Facebook – with one resident and father blasting the issue as a disgrace.

Echo:

He said there’s much more than what you can see from the car, and that all of the hedgerows are stacked with rubbish too.

He said there’s no point taking time to highlight what’s happening any more.

Beryl James, 78, of the village said: “It makes me so mad that people can do this and keep getting away with it – I understand why people feel there’s no point in keep fighting it.

“It’s a tough issue to crack, in my mind, as the council doesn’t have infinite funds to pay for cameras everywhere or even officers to patrol.

“But at the same time why should we, as taxpayers, keep footing the bill to clear all this mess over and over again.

Echo:

“It seems to be an issue that shows no signs of going away and affects everyone and all communities.”

Barry Evans, 56, said: “It’s absolutely disgusting and I feel more could be done. I think most people would agree with a little more tax for extra cameras and or patrols or something similar.

“We do need to get this sorted I think it could be worth trying new and or different tactics.

“There is no reason why people should be able to keep getting away with this all the time – they are probably making a profit by charging others for the removal.”

The residents and campaigners also say when people pay firms to take away their waste they have a responsibility in this too.

Council chiefs say they are aware of the ongoing issues and will continue to clear the waste from the flytipping hotspot as well as checking evidence to catch those responsible.

A spokesman for Castle Point Council said: “Fane Road is a private road with links out onto the A127 there are no properties overlooking so unfortunately it is an easy target for fly tippers.

“The Council cleared a fly tip in Coniston Road and Fane Road between Christmas and the New Year.

“We are aware of a further fly tip since then and arrangements are being made to clear this.

“All fly tips are checked for evidence and where evidence is found the council will investigate and take action where possible against the flytippers.”
