Plans to build five new homes in Waltham Abbey look set to be rejected.

An application has been lodged to build four two-bedroom and one single bedroom home in Sun Street, at the rear of the Co-op.

Epping Forest District Council will discuss the proposals at a planning committee meeting next week, but planning officers have recommended the plans are refused.

The homes would share access with King Harold Court, while refuse and recycling stores and cycle storage would be located at ground level within King Harold Court.

The scheme has no provision for car parking.

Officers objections are focused on the site’s location, within the Waltham Abbey Conservation Area and surrounded by a number of Grade II listed buildings.

Council documents state: “The proposal, by reason of its design, bulk and materials would be highly prominent and out of character with the surrounding area, would have an adverse impact upon the setting of the nearby listed buildings... and would fail to enhance the character and appearance of the Waltham Abbey Conservation Area within which it is situated.

“The application does not provide sufficient information to satisfy thc Council, as competent authority, that the proposed development will not adversely affect the integrity of the Epping Forest Special Area for Conservation.”
