Significant stretches of road in Epping Forest are set to be temporarily closed while roadworks are carried out.

A notice from Essex County Council in this week’s edition of the Guardian details the orders that were approved with effect from March 25, affecting roads in Ongar, Epping, Waltham Abbey and Harlow. These orders are in place for up to 18 months but the exact dates when the work will take place will be specified on One network.

The first set of works will be carried out in a phased fashion, with the roads closed and then re-opened to the public. In addition to the closures, temporary ‘no waiting, no loading and no stopping’ restrictions will also be enforced in the following lengths of road:

Brentwood Road, Ongar - from its junction with Stondon Road for a distance of approximately 900 metres in a southerly direction.

Station Road/Bower Hill, Epping - from the junction with High Street to the junction with Fluxes Lane, a distance of approximately 1287m.

Crooked Mile/Holyfield Road, Waltham Abbey and Waltham Road, Nazeing – from the junction with Crooked Mile Roundabout to a point approximately 177m east of Laundry Lane, a distance of approximately 4765m.

A second set of works will also be carried out in a phased manner. In addition to the temporary closures and ‘no waiting, no loading and no stopping’ restrictions, temporary 30mph speed limits will be introduced in the following sections of road while the works take place:

Maltings Hill, Ongar – from a point approximately 110m north west of its junction with Little Laver Road for a distance of approximately 255m in a south westerly direction.

Low Hill Road, Harlow – from its junction with Netherall Road to its junction with Parkfields, a distance of approximately 1355m.

Elsewhere, a section of Long Street, Waltham Abbey, is scheduled to close for four days from April 6 for roadworks.

It will be temporarily shut to traffic from a point approximately 135m south-east of its junction with Fernhall Lane for a distance of approximately 70m in a south-easterly direction.

Another four-day temporary closure from the same date is due to take effect in Workers Road, High Laver.

This will be from its junction with Tilegate Road for a distance of approximately 145m in a north-easterly direction.
