Epping's historic Monday Market successfully reopened on Monday.

The market, run by the town council, had operated for the last few months on an 'essential stalls only' basis, in line with government Covid restrictions.

On Monday, April 11, residents were greeted by a full line-up of stalls.

Elsewhere, shoppers enjoyed returning to retail stores, getting their hair cut, having a pint outdoors and getting back into gyms.

A town council spokesperson said: "Epping’s Monday Market is not only an important part of the character of our historic market town, but it supports the High Street businesses on a Monday, provides the opportunity for outdoor shopping and augments the enormous sense of community that Epping enjoys.

"Please visit and support our loyal traders in a socially-distanced way in the coming weeks.

Town Clerk Beverley Rumsey said: “We are delighted to welcome all our traders back. Some of them have been with us for many years and know their customers personally. They have been sincerely missed.

"We are also delighted to see our High Street reopen more fully and would encourage people to continue to observe all safety guidance as they enjoy the town.”
