It is ten years ago this week since one of the greatest aircraft of the Second World War delighted onlookers as it took to the skies again.

One of the country’s last remaining Spitfires soared through the skies above Waltham Abbey as the Royal Gunpowder Mills marked the anniversary of VE Day.

The summer programme of events is now well underway at the popular venue in Beaulieu Drive, and visitors at the weekend experienced a battle re-enactment, a street party and an air-raid alert.

The next military display will be on the weekend of June 11 and 12, with all profits going to the Queen's Royal Lancers Regimental Association Charity.
