The “outstanding vision and commitment” that has led to a charity becoming the biggest emergency food agency in Epping Forest in less than a year has been recognised with one of its most prestigious awards to date.
The High Sheriff of Essex Simon Brice and his wife Emma visited 3food4u's Waltham Abbey hub last Friday to present the community project’s founder Pesh Kapasiawala with The High Sheriff’s Award.
Simon said: “The award is in recognition of his outstanding vision and commitment in setting up the 3food4u hubs which have grown under his leadership providing vital supplies and support to local communities in Epping Forest District and beyond."

Pesh was proud to receive the award, but stressed it was recognition for all those who had played a part in ensuring the charity is continuing to help many people in need.
He said: “This award is for all the tireless volunteers that have worked day and night to make us the largest emergency food agency in Epping Forest district in less than 12 months, accessible to the whole of Epping Forest every weekday 52 weeks a year. Treating and supporting people humanely with dignity and respect.”

Simon set out on his year as High Sheriff of Essex not only with a sense of resolve, but also a sense of humour. Taking on the role, which dates back to Anglo Saxon times, is “an honour” says Simon, a farmer, who is proud to be an Essex man, born and bred.
The 841st High Sheriff of Essex said: “The voluntary and charity sector and our excellent police, fire and ambulance services, as well as Essex County Council, the unitary authorities and district councils, have all stepped up to the mark over the past difficult year. They all deserve thanks and support as they continue to do a tremendous job to serve the county.”

The charity is supported by the Rotary Club of Loughton, Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell which is continuing to meet via Zoom on Thursdays at 7pm.
