Essex Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of an assault in Loughton last month.

A man and a woman, both known to each other, are believed to have had a verbal altercation between Marlescroft Way and Southview Road on Saturday, May 8.

The man is described as being black with a short afro hairstyle, aged in his late teens, and wore a navy tracksuit.

The victim, a woman aged in her early 20s, was wearing pink pyjamas at the time of the incident.

Detectives are working to establish what occurred in the lead-up to the incident, and if there were any witnesses to the assault itself.

An 18-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at the scene. He has been released on bail.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and has not yet spoken to our officers, or has access to CCTV or dash cam footage which may be relevant, is asked to call 101 and quote the crime reference number 42/85579/21.

If you have further information or footage available, you can submit a report online at www.essex.police.uk or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am-11pm.

Information can also be given to independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
