A 72-year-old man from Basingstoke has been fined nearly £900 after he was found speeding and then refused to provide information to a chief officer of police.
Nicholas Shayler, of Warwick Road, Winklebury, was caught speeding on July 19 last year on the B2179 Stocks Lane, in East Wittering.
The pensioner was driving a Ford above the 30mph speed limit.
The following day he failed to give information to the chief officer of police for Sussex Police relating to the identification of the driver of the Ford.
Shayler pleaded not guilty to both offences but was found guilty on June 15 this year.
At a hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Shayler was fined £242 and asked to pay £34 to fund victim services.
He was also ordered to pay £620 costs to the Crown Prosecution Services and given six points on his licence.
