A third lorry driver has caused damage to Epping’s Town Hall war memorial resulting in a pending prosecution.

City of London Corporation who maintain Epping’s grounds are working with partners to repair the damage caused ahead of Remembrance Day.

The pending prosecution follows the latest incident where a lorry churned up the green by the town's war memorial forcing a road that crosses the green to close on Tuesday, October 12.

A bollard has been installed to prevent large vehicles from mounting the kurb on Lindsey Street corner.

The incident has been reported as a breach of Epping Forest bye law offences and prosecution is now pending.

Dame Eleanor has urged the City of London to resolve the "ridiculous situation."

She said: "Installing a bollard or closing the road would seem sensible solutions... It is a ridiculous situation.

"The area is well maintained by Epping Town Council and it is a great shame that the efforts of town council staff are being ruined by the drivers who are causing this damage.”

A spokesperson for the City of London Corporation said: “We have been working hard to address this issue for considerable time in order to stop such incidents from happening.

“We remain committed to working together with other stakeholders to deliver a lasting solution that Epping Forest has been seeking for a number of years.”
