Above is England’s Lane, Loughton, c1905 showing a very rural scene with rolling countryside.

This road was often used to reach the manor of Debden Hall.

The earliest reference to a Methodist church in Loughton was in 1873, when Edward Pope took over a disused chapel on the corner of England’s Lane and Goldings Hill (right).
