Swinging lovers of big band music can attend a fundraising concert to help preserve the history of jazz.
Singer Catherine Lima will perform with the John Ongom Big Band at Loughton Methodist Church on January 28.
The National Jazz Archive is housed at Loughton Library, which is funded by Essex County Council, and the National Jazz Archive Charity, which was launched in the 1980s to help conserve the music’s history.
Angela Davis, a volunteer manager of the archive, told the Epping Forest Guardian: “We're very grateful to the council for funding our building and the archivists who work here. However, we depend on collections and donations to help us preserve our jazz catalogue, so it’s essential to raise funds for the charity because it allows us to continue preserving the history of jazz.”
The concert runs from 7.30pm to 10pm. Tickets cost £20 via the event website www.nationaljazzarchive.org.uk/new-events. Email events@nationaljazzarchive.org.uk or call 020 8502 4701.
