A bus is providing a safe space for armed forces veterans in crisis in Hertfordshire.

The Big Yellow Battle Bus is operated by the Minds at War mental health organisation, which aims to support armed forces and their families.

The double decker bus made an appearance at Abbots Langley Carnival recently and Minds at War is relying on donations and grants to keep it up and running.

Watford Labour county councillors Nigel Bell and Asif Khan recently awarded grants of £750 and £1,000 respectively towards maintenance and legal costs for the bus.  

Cllr Bell said: “I am very pleased to support this very important project and organisation for our veterans. We need to recognise the honourable service that our veterans have given their country and this funding is vital to helping their wellbeing for the future.”

Cllr Khan added: “I am happy to help fund this project that supports veterans in crisis in Watford and the whole of Hertfordshire. The Big Yellow Battle Bus aims to reduce the risk of suicide by manning the bus with volunteers and mental health counsellors.

“The project allows veterans needing a safe space will benefit from an environment which is safe and supportive.”
