Many were bemused at Anthony Joshua’s reaction to losing to Oleksandr Usyk in Saturday’s world heavyweight title rematch in Jeddah.

Joshua was attempting to reclaim the WBA, IBF and WBO belts after being outboxed in their first encounter last September.

Many felt the boxer or his corner misjudged his performance, leading him to believe he was winning - but the judges’ scorecards later showed he was ahead after the ninth round.

His reaction to losing - throwing two of Usyk’s belts out of the ring - dismayed many, although he later apologised.

AJ got it wrong after the result was announced but critics should hold fire.

For years he’s shown nothing but class, been a brilliant role model and always given back to the community.

AJ would be the first to admit he has got himself into trouble down the years - but has worked hard to put that right.

He’s shown everyone it is possible to turn your life around with hard work, and has handled years of unimaginable pressure with humility.

He made a wrong call in a difficult moment. We all have. Don’t let it detract from what he really is - a good man from Watford who has inspired a generation.
