Firefighters battled to stop a blaze at a bungalow spreading to nearby properties.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in Epping Road, Nazeing, on Sunday at 5.48pm.

Crews from Harlow, Loughton, Waltham Abbey, Epping, Cheshunt and Bishop's Stortford attended, along with the Incident Command Unit from Witham.

Station Manager Dave Bond said: "Crews were faced with a well-developed fire affecting a bungalow and adjoining outbuilding, which was close to a number of other properties.

"Firefighters worked incredibly hard in tough conditions to stop the fire from spreading, protect nearby buildings and extinguish it."

The fire was fully extinguished by 7.40pm. Two crews stayed at the scene into the evening to damp the site down and check for hotspots.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.

  • Firefighters from Waltham Abbey and Epping are on-call firefighters, who live or work within 5 minutes of their station and are paid to protect their community.

If you live or work within 5 minutes of an on-call fire station, you could be an on-call firefighter too.
