An 89-year-old was among more than 160 people who walked 5k to raise money for a hospice.

The impressive charity walk, on October 16, was to support St Clare Hospice as part of the charity's Walking in Memory event.

The event raised more than £15,500.

As the oldest walker, Hugh Bliss, 89, took on the challenge in memory of his son-in-law Michael Deer, one of the first patients to be cared for on the hospice’s Inpatient Unit in 2000.

He completed the course in just under two and a half hours.

He said: “It was a real challenge for me, the furthest I had walked in the last nine months before today was just 500 yards.

"It was good to walk in memory of my son-in-law Mike."
