A manhunt is underway for a convicted rapist who has family links to London.

Muarug Abraham Gebremcal, 34, was released on bail after he was convicted of rape at Exeter Crown Court in September.

Devon and Cornwall Police said he is now wanted for breaching his bail conditions by failing to report to police.

Gebremcal, originally from Eritrea, has family links to London as well as Plymouth and Birmingham.

But police have widened their search to anywhere in the UK.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Spencer said: “We are urgently trying to locate Gebremcal and are appealing to anyone who may know where he is.

“Originally from Eritrea, he is described as a black male, 6ft tall, of a slim build with black afro hair and brown eyes. However, it is suspected that Gebremcal may have now changed his appearance by shaving his head.

“He has a distinct tattoo of a male figure on his lower left arm and is known to ride a black bicycle which may be a CARERRA X GO type.”

Epping Forest Guardian: Members of the public have been warned not to approach him if they see him.

If anyone has any information or has seen Gebremcal is asked to call 999 quoting reference 50230269135.
