A takeaway driver in Accrington has been reported, as police crackdown on illegal drivers across Hyndburn.

On Monday afternoon (April 15), a takeaway driver, driving a a black Toyota Yaris on Nuttall Street, was found to have an expired licence.

The driver was removed from the vehicle and reported for summons.

On the same day, police seized a grey Volkswagen Golf on Limefield Street. The driver did not have insurance.

The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported.

A police spokesperson said: “Yesterday afternoon, we seized a grey Volkswagen Golf on Limefield Street after identifying the driver did not have insurance to drive the vehicle.  

“The Golf was seized accordingly and the driver reported for summons.  As a result of information provided by members of the public, the vehicle was searched under the misuse of drugs act however no items were found on this occasion.

 “Later the same day, a takeaway driver who has an expired licence was stopped driving a black Toyota Yaris on Nuttall Street, Accrington.   The driver was also removed from the vehicle and reported for summons.

 “We continue to actively investigate information provided by members of the public and thank you in advance.   The information is acted upon in confidence.”
