Justin Edinburgh praised the character of his squad as Leyton Orient responded to last week's setback by returning to winning ways against Maidenhead United.

First half goals from Macauley Bonne and James Alabi meant the O's responded in perfect fashion to last week's first defeat of the season to Sutton United.

Bonne put the O's in front in the 11th minute when he netted his tenth of the season by heading home Jobi McAnuff's cross, before Alabi doubled their advantage on the half hour mark.

From then, the East London side controlled the game professionally and Edinburgh was delighted with his side's reaction to last week's defeat.

He said: "I think it was a bit of an unknown for us this season to be beaten. Today was the reaction we all wanted and I'm pleased with the group in terms of their reaction today.

"There was a limited amount of chances. Both teams cancelled one another out with the same formation, so it was difficult to find any free flowing football. But when the chances came along, James Alabi and Macauley Bonne dispatched them very well.

"It was a good cross and a great header for the first goal. He (Bonne) was a fair way out from goal. Macauley perhaps could have had one or two more with his head this season but it was a great finish.

"I'm pleased for James. He's had to wait for a start but the injury to Josh Koroma gave him his opportunity and I'm pleased not just with his goal but his all-round performance. For someone who hasn't started for such a long time, I thought he showed some really good signs and it was a really good finish."

Edinburgh was forced to make one change to his starting line-up for the first time in 11 games with Alabi replacing Josh Koroma, who missed out with a knee injury.

Koroma has been in excellent form for the O's this season, notching three goals, and his displays were rewarded with an England C call-up ten days ago.

But Koroma's hopes of linking up with the squad could be in doubt and Edinburgh said that the medical team would assess the youngster over the weekend before deciding whether to release him for international duty.

Edinburgh said: "Today came too soon for him. We don't envisage that it will be long term.

"It's just a case of him sitting down with the medical team over the weekend to see whether we will let him link up with England or whether we are going to rule him out. But that's something we will make a decision on over the weekend"
