A late two-goal show underlined why Leyton Orient are sitting at the National League summit as they triumphed 2-0 at Wrexham in their top-of-the-table clash.
That win, coupled with Salford City having to settle for a goalless draw at Solihull Moors, means Justin Edinburgh’s men have opened up a three-point advantage at the top going into Tuesday night’s clash with Aldershot Town at the Breyer Group Stadium.
The victory also set a new club record for the longest unbeaten away run in a season, which previously stood at 11 games.
It looked increasingly like the O’s would have to settle for a point but in the 86th minute Macauley Bonne’s predatory instincts again came to the fore when he fired into the roof of the net after a Jobi McAnuff corner had fallen for him in the box.
The seal was then set on a wonderful away-day in the last minute of normal time when a headed clearance fell for substitute James Brophy and he superbly lobbed the keeper from 30 yards.
Leyton Orient: Brill, Widdowson, Coulson, Ekpiteta, Judd, McAnuff, Clay, Gorman (Alabi 85), Dayton (Brophy 68), Koroma, Bonne. Subs not used: Janata, Happe, Harrold
