A London Senior Cup quarter-final awaits Leyton Orient after they beat Haringey Borough 2-1 at Coles Park last night.

Ruel Sotiriou opened the scoring for the hosts in the opening period and James Alabi doubled the advantage after the break before former O Charley Barker halved the deficit late on.

With a line-up including Alex Lawless, George Elokobi, Dan Happe and Matt Harrold, the visitors' first opening came when Sotiriou found Hector Kyprianou – fresh from signing his first professional contract last week – but he curled over from the edge of the box.

But the opener did arrive after the half-an-hour mark when Sotiriou seized on the ball as it rolled clear of the area and fired into the bottom corner.

Brandon Shabani and Kyprinaou forced Haringey keeper Austin Byfield into saves after the break, but the home side almost levelled when Joel Nouble’s shot rebounded off the inside of the post and rolled across the line before Arthur Janata was able to end the danger.

Orient scored their second four minutes from time when Alabi converted from six yards after Byfield had only been able to parry a stinging Sotiriou strike from distance.

Haringey pulled one back soon after when Barker fired home after the visitors had failed to clear.

But the hosts were to be reduced to 10 men when last man Scott Mitchell was sent off for bringing down Sotiriou when he was put through on goal by a fine Alabi flick.
