Epping Upper Clapton made another big step towards the London 3 Essex title with a 41-0 win away at Canvey Island.

Reece Reed and Jordan Watson both went over twice, with Des Griggs, Mitch Sinfield and Jack Glass also adding tries to secure Clapton a bonus point.

Reed opened the scoring after only five minutes when he escaped from a scrum, which settled the team down enough for them to kick on and add to their tally.

Watson then went over for the first of his tries after being assisted by Reed, and he added his second on 25 minutes to put the visitors in a commanding position.

Des Griggs added a fourth try before the break, giving Clapton a 26-0 lead at half-time with the addition of three conversions from Reed.

The away side became a little more disjointed in the second half, partly due to the number of changes they had to make due to injury and unavailability, but also due to the pressure Canvey were putting on to try and keep the scores down.

However, they were unable to prevent Sinfield, Reed and Glass going over in the second half to add to the score, which culminated in Clapton taking a 41-0 win.

The side now only need three more points to clinch the league title, so could potentially do it next week when they host Old Cooperians.
